Our annual Christmas Fest (formerly "Festival of Lights") was celebrated Friday night, December 9th.  It was a chilly evening, but we still had a nice turnout, considering.

KC QUARTERLY COMMUNION

12/17/2016

The OLDP Knights of Columbus, Council #9347, will celebrate its Quarterly Communion Mass at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17th, 2016.  After Mass the Knights will go to the Ground Pati restaurant, 3124 David Drive, for a fellowship supper (Dutch Treat).

ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED!


ALTAR SERVERS...Open to boys and girls, grade 4 through high school seniors, willing to commit for an entire school year. Altar Servers are trained to assist at parish liturgies. They participate in service projects and fun activities throughout the year.

September Web Quest Week 1 Clue #1 – I was born at a time when the Black Death was ravaging Europe. It might have been my deep devotion to Mary, or my love for Jesus that kept me alive.

CYO HAS A BALL AT THE FAMILY COOKOUT ON JULY 24, 2015


The OLDP CYO held their first annual Family Cookout on Sunday, July 24th.  The families enjoyed sporting activities and broke bread with barbecue and fixin's.  Check out the "Photo Gallery" for all the pictures.

CYO BASEBALL NIGHT


Our CYO and Friends enjoyed a great night at Zephyr Field watching the Zephyrs roll over Iowa with a score of 7-5.  There was also a fireworks show following the game.  It is reported that there were 24 people from our CYO at the game.

CYO FAMILY COOKOUT

The CYO Family Cookout on Sunday, July 24th was a fun time for all who attended.  There was plenty of food, conversation and games.  Hopefully this will become an annual event.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

The Parish Council of the Knights of Columbus Council # 9347, was formed on June 24, 1986.  It is a Catholic men's organization dedicated to serving others.

For those of you who are not familiar with this type of website, let me see if I can show you some things you may not be aware of.

First, the left and right columns don't see too much change from day to day.  These two outside columns provide basic information for our parish.  However, in the right column there is a video prayer from Pope Francis that changes every month.  These are very good.  They should probably be viewed in "full screen" mode for better watching.

OLDP CYO LEAVES TODAY FOR THE ANNUAL STEUBENVILLE ON THE BAYOU YOUTH CONFERENCE

This weekend (June 24-26, 2016) the OLDP CYO youth group will be  attending the Steubenville on the Bayou youth conference in Houma, LA. This national youth conference is rooted in building the faith of our young Catholic generation.  Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio holds over 18 conferences throughout the country every summer. 

Our CYO will be bringing 12 youth, 3 young adults, and 3 faithful chaperones to this conference in the effort to learn about, grow in, and encounter our faith in a deeper way.

FR. MIKE IS ON VACATION

Fr. Mike is on vacation and won't return to the parish office until Tuesday, June 28th.  Our regular visiting priests will be handling all of the Masses until his return.

In the event of an emergency, please call for a priest at one of our neighboring parishes:  Our Lady of Perpetual Help - 464-0361; St. Mary Magdalen - 733-0902; or, St. Edward the Confessor - 888-0703.

We pray that Fr. Mike has a peaceful and restful vacation and returns safely.

BAKE SALE FUNDRAISER FOR CYO

Our CYO held their final fundraiser before their three day youth conference (Steubenville on the Bayou) on June 24-26, 2016.  

As always, our parishioners showed great generosity to our youth by giving them a most successful fundraiser.  Not only did they sell out their baked goods, but they received many cash donations in addition.

HELP STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING

OLDP Parishioners Respond Yet Again!
Once again, the OLDP Family responds to the call of the Gospel, “…when you do this for the least among you, you do it for Me.” (Matthew 25)

Throughout the month of June, our parish is heeding the cry of the Gospel. With over $1,200, along with boxes of toiletries and foodstuffs, the OLDP Parish Family is doing its part in the fight to end HUMAN TRAFFICKING (see photos). Around the

The Teacher Appreciation Luncheon was held at Stingray's restaurant on May 26th.  
The Appreciation Luncheon was hosted by the OLDP Parents' Club.  It appears in these pictures that everyone in attendance had a good time.

COME LORD JESUS LEADERS MEET WITH ARCHBISHOP AYMOND

Several Area Coordinators of Come Lord Jesus met with Archbishop Aymond on Thursday, May 12th to discuss the Come, Lord Jesus program.  After an encouraging meeting he asked them to stay in touch with Father David Caron, Vicar of Evangelization for the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

SHERRY LEMOINE RETIRES AFTER OVER 20 YEARS SERVICE TO OLDP

Fr. Mike and the Staff of Our Lady of Divine Providence would like to thank Sherry Lemoine who has dedicated 20+ years of volunteering at OLDP.  

Sherry began her ministry in our Food Pantry.  She has also served as the coordinator for the monthly Memorial Masses and has been the caretaker of the gardens in front of the church office as well as all the plants inside the office.  For many years Sherry has been our cheerful Volunteer Receptionist on Friday mornings.  We thank her for all she has done and wish her a blessed retirement.  She will be greatly missed by all of us in the church office.

2016 ORDER OF ST. LOUIS IX AWARD RECIPIENTS

We would like to congratulate Ray and Nada Vath on their receiving this year's Order of St. Louis IX Award here at OLDP.  

The Order of St. Louis IX award was established in 1975 to honor those members of the laity who have contributed their time and talents to the church. In the past 41 years, more than 10,000 men and women have received the medallion as a token of thanks for their Christ-like service to the church.

Also, we want to acknowledge with great appreciation all of those who have received this award both at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church and Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in previous years.

The OLDP CYO is holding a fundraiser this weekend, June 11th and 12th, to get the group to the annual Steubenville on the Bayou Youth Conference at the end of this month in Houma, Louisiana.  Please check out this flyer for more information.

CYO TO ATTEND NATIONAL YOUTH RETREAT

Steubenville on the Bayou 2016 

On June 24-26, the members of the CYO youth group will be traveling to and attending the Steubenville on the Bayou youth conference in Houma, LA. A conference rooted in building the faith of our young Catholic generation, Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio has over 18 conferences throughout the country every summer.

Our CYO will be bringing 9 youth, 3 young adults, and 3 faithful chaperones to this conference in the effort to learn about, grow in, and encounter our faith in a deeper way.

Through speakers, breakout sessions, worship, mass, and adoration, the Steubenville youth conference will allow our OLDP youth to embrace their relationship with Christ and connect to other youth in their faith community. There are still spots available to attend the Steubenville conference, but time is running out quickly. If you or a teen you know is interested in attending the conference, please have them contact Haley Troxclair, Youth Minister, at the church office.

YOUNG ADULTS

We have a new page on this site called YOUNG ADULTS.  This page will outline activities for those who have graduated from high school and up to age 30.  We have added info for summer activities happening with the new Young Adults for Christ (YAC) organization at St. Mary Magdalen.  All youth and young adults are invited to participate in their events. So please check it all out on the new YOUNG ADULTS page.

ANNUAL SPRING FAIR

OLDP had a very successful fair this year.  Through the efforts of lots and lots of dedicated volunteers, and through the generosity of our parishioners and visitors, the fair has provided our church and school with funds to make several improvements and repairs to our facilities.  Thank you to all who participated in any way.
